As a result of meningitis at age 10, I gradually developed profound bilateral deafness. I have used the most powerful hearing aids available for 40 years & use lip reading as a most helpful adjunct. In spite of being surrounded by masked nurses & doctors in the operating & delivery rooms I was able to develop a large obstetrical & gyn surgical practice & function at the highest level -- only possible with a dedicated team of nurses & assistants. I thought the ball game was over at age 30. I never thought I would be in practice at 75. I am now being evaluated for a cochlear implant.
